Elder Law

There are other situations that call for a family law expert.  As baby boomers mature and enter retirement, Elder law has experienced a rise.  Parents and elders have earned their independence in life and it’s difficult to let go.  In some cases, it’s important for a family to make a legal decision.  The laws are in place to retain the individual’s self-respect, safety and integrity.

Families

The blending of families is another area of family law, where two people have a desire to unite a household.  The process includes contracts or legal documents requiring a family law attorney.  The actions may involve adoption of minor children or guardianship of adults.

Adoption laws

Intended to protect all parties, including adults or minors.  The laws are clear on adopting and being adopted as couples chose to join or expand families.  As a result of safeguarding a person's rights the process does take time.  A family lawyer can help adopting parents understand the process and legal requirements.

Guardianship

Guardianship occurs between an adult and a protected person. In some cases the guardian manages financial and health decisions. They may be granted fiduciary duties and power of attorney.  In either case, a lawyer is needed to explain and prepare the contracts and documents. The limitations defined by the court are intended to protect the person’s rights and freedom of action. At the same time, protect him or her from their own declining function.
